Sam Bates to make a BIG impression.

Broadstreet RFC welcome back nineteen year old Tighthead Prop Sam Bates for the coming 2011/12 season.  Sam played junior rugby with Broadstreet up until he was sixteen, when he was accepted into Leicester Tigers RFC Elite Player Development Group (EPDG) scheme.  During his time with Tigers, Sam played regularly with a host of up-and-coming stars, including England’s newest International. Manu Tuilagi.

At eighteen, Sam left Leicester Tigers Academy to join Coventry RFC for their National League1 campaign, with the hope of gaining first team experience.  Sam, however, faced stiff competition from experienced England Counties prop Martin Kent and was denied the opportunity to earn his place in the side.  Consequently, Sam was loaned out to Rugby Lions RFC.

After a torrid season in which the Lions won only four games, Sam has decided that he would like to play his rugby for a stable club like Broadstreet and is also looking forward to re-joining a number of his old friends still playing for the Street from his time there as a junior.

At 6’6” tall and in excess of twenty two stone, Sam Bates is determined to make a BIG impression on National 3 Midlands and Broadstreet’s bid for promotion.
