PRESIDENTS WELCOME
Saturday 11th April sees us welcome the players, management team, club officials and supporters of Malvern RFC to the Ivor Preece Field for what is the penultimate league match of this season. I am sure they will enjoy our facilities and hospitality to the full this afternoon.
Both sides have had a bit of the pressure lifted off them for this afternoon’s match for different reasons.
After our victory over South Leicester last weekend we are guaranteed top place in the league which will see us automatically promoted to the National Leagues for the second time for what will be our 80th Anniversary season.
Malvern can also breathe more easily as they are out of the two automatic relegation places and cannot be caught by either of the teams below them.
Last Saturday was one to remember in the history of Broadstreet RFC as not only did our first team win their league, our second and thirds also won their respective leagues in the Warwickshire 2nd Tier Competition with the third team also passing 1,000 points for the season. This competition has been a great boost to local rugby and we will be putting a fourth team into it for next season. We also won the County midweek Double Tops Shield Competition beating Leamington RFC in the final at Earlsdon's rugby club.
Congratulations to all the players and management of all the teams for their contribution to making this a very memorable season. However we are not finished yet as we are still in the running to win at least another four pieces of silverware before the end of the season, so there is no time for anyone to relax.
My thanks to Broadstreet Under 16’s for sponsoring today’s game and Barbara Canterbury for sponsoring the match ball it is deeply appreciated.
Former Players Dinner
Next Saturday we will be playing our last league match of the season against Hinckley RFC and there will be former player’s dinner prior to the game.
Places are still available so please see Tom Faulkner or Garry Watts to reserve your places.
Annual Dinner & Dance
We also have our traditional end of Season Dinner & Dance at the Royal Court Hotel on Friday 15th May. This should be great night having won so many competitions already this season and hopefully more to come. To reserve your table or places put your names and telephone number on the booking sheets at the entrance to the main club room.
I am sure most of you already know of the death of Jim Broderick who passed away last weekend after a long illness. Jim was one of the legends of Coventry & Warwickshire rugby and great character. May He Rest In Peace.
Don Branston.
