The Aviva Premiership is the professional rugby union league also known as the English Premiership, which is a league competition for rugby union football clubs in the top division of the English rugby system at Level 1. There are twelve clubs in the Aviva Premiership and the competition has been played since 1987, and has evolved into the current Premiership system employing relegation to and promotion from the Level 2 RFU Championship.
