Coventry rugby union club Broadstreet RFC have continued to develop their infastructure over the close season with Head Coach Paul Hurst bringing in 2 additional coaches. Paul's brief is to return the club to its community based roots based across the Coventry and Warwickshire rugby heartland. Paul, previously played rugby for Broadstreet RFC and has also coached with Warwickshire and Bedworth. Integration accross the whole club is an ideal that Paul fully shares the belief in, ensuring that the RFU core values are apparent from the M&J section through to the club 1st XV, ensuring that coaches accross the cluc share the same conviction.
- Recruited as Attacking / Skills coach is John Raby, from Leamington RFC, a former Bangor RFC and Kenilworth RFC winger. John has also been involved in Coaching of Warwickshire Under 20 Development squad.
- Forwards Coach, Experienced Hooker and Coventry lad Stewart Pearl remains, Stewart joined Street from Stourbridge RFC to be Player/Coach. Stewart has played for Rugby Lions RFC, Coventry RFC, Birmingham & Solihull RFC, Cambridge RFC, Worcester Warriors RFC and Plymouth Albion RFC.

Street as Champions of Midlands 1 2008 - 2009 found the progression to National league 2 North, tough over the whole period and there were some steep learning curves in places. Broadstreet had an excellent start to the 2009 - 2010 season but as the season progressed discovered that maintaining their initial winning ways was a tougher job all around. Season 2013 -2014 saw better results and they again featured as Champions of National League 3 Midlands, 2 seasons at level 4 followed with the success in the first season 2014-15 back in National 2 North where they finished 7th but 2015 - 2016 the side did not manage to get the results against teams in the lower end of the league finishing in the bottom 3 to go back to National League 3 Midlands. The side has seen some changes with players wishing to stay playing at level 4, a couple of brothers moving to 2 Leicester based clubs, moving on to South Leicester (Sam Gibbons, Myles Bean, Aaron Martin) Coventry (Joe Forman) Leicester Lions (Liam Hills, Daniel Martin, Jack Gibbons) we wish the lads well and that Leicester derby could have a bit more at stake this season.
In the front row, two of the most consistent performers of last season in props Jake Dodd & George Walsh have committed to the 16/17 season. Walsh arrived from Ireland last summer having played the highest level of University rugby in his home country. However, he became a crowd favourite on a wet December day in Yorkshire when the 15 stone Leprechaun dominated a 22 stone behemoth in the scrum throughout our league game against Sandal. Jake Dodd, on the other hand, became a crowd favourite for his uncanny Bill Withers singing impersonation, his important role as the cornerstone of the Broadstreet squad, first name on the team sheet every week, a welcome bonus! Harry Pendleton completes the set of returning props, ensuring that competition will be tough as only 18 in the match day squad means tough decisions for the selectors, especially as all 3 players proved themselves in National 2.
This obviosly creates some gaps from last seasons starting line up with the coaches wanting to keep under their hats newer signings means that there are a few new faces around the club. What can be confirmed is that an experienced backline has been assured with Nick Thatcher, Lee Chapman, Andy Murray and Todd Freemantle remaining. Todd, Thatch and Chappy’s continual chat will be essential in guiding the team towards victories.
Todd Freemantle has been invaluable on the pitch and also on the training paddock, as an influential leader Todd has took training drills as well as captained the side for games last season. With the young squad Broadstreet are building,
On the other hand Andy Murray likes to do his talking with his feet! His elusive running and finishing earned him the spotlight in one of the Samsung Try of the Month competitions and he has also achieved representation for England at the top end of the amateur game. A player of his quality can make anything happen at anytime and ‘Street fans are guaranteed some excellent tries in 16/17.
2016 - 2017 sees Broadstreet RFC fielding their Broadstreet social XV in the Warwickshire 2 2nd XV league, a first for both the club and the league. The social side are under the watchful eyes of Darrel and Dean Watts, 2 members of the Watts dynasty and Street lads to the core, they will ensure that the team under their control will experience some proper rugby socials with some tough training drinking sessions planned.
