Street U9s @ Kenilworth March 11th
Sunday 11th March Match Report.
Broadstreet U9s travelled to Kenilworth with a squad of 15, Kenilworth kindly lent us a player to make two teams of 8. Thanks to Harry from Kenilworth (good lad, put in some great tackles)!!
Kenilworth U9s have always provided us with a tough challenge, with them normally coming out on top. It was a fine day to play rugby, the sun was beating and it was a barmy 16c.
I looked after 1 team and Paul and Cliff took the other. We played 2 games simultaneously side by side. All the lads put in a stirling effort with victories for both teams, a 3-1 victory on my pitch and the other team winning 2-1. Phew! That was a hard 20 minutes of rugby for the lads.
After a very short break, the second set of games got underway; the games didn’t go that well with my team losing 6-0 and the other team losing 6-1. A tough lesson of rugby for the boys but we were carrying no substitutes and this aided the fresh Kenilworth substitutes to make an immediate impact. Also lets not take anything away from Kenilworth they have a very strong age group and play rugby to a similar attacking style to us.
The lads were drained after 2 physical games of rugby on a warm spring day. We gathered both teams together for one last game. The last game saw the lads regain some pride with a great final 20 minutes of rugby drawing 2-2.
A very satisfying day overall with some great rugby by the lads, we have continued to improve and will take the improved result against a good side like Kenilworth.
Coaches player of the week: goes to Max (route 1) Johnson, very done to Max he is a pleasure to coach.
Most improved player of the week: goes to William Walton, William continues to improve when playing rugby
2nd most improved player of the week: Edward Sopp, Edward is relatively new to the squad and has made improvement week on week
We are blessed with a great bunch of lads, the season thus far has provided me and the coaching team (also the parents) with great pleasure as we have seen the lad’s progress and improve with the rugby that they have played.
Carl (U9 Coach)
