Junior Colts Introduction

Junior Colts (Under 17's) 2009 -2010

The Age limit for Under 17's Age Grades is determined as being under the specified age at midnight on 31 August at the beginning of the season in which matches are to be played. The appropriate age group applies for the whole season. At representative level (U17 and U18 only) the age limit is determined at midnight on 31st December of that season. (From the RFU Rules and Regulations Age Grades and Applicable Variations) So if you are currently 16 and are not 17 until after 31st August 2009 fill out the form 'I want to play for Broadstreet RFC' which can be found on the right hand side of every page on the site here.

Youth Development Initiative

Through the Development Initiative is intended that players of all abilities should receive assistance in improving their rugby skills so that they are better equipped to play now, and at whatever level each aspires to play, as a senior.
Rugby, in general, has a higher than desired ‘fall-off rate’, so it is imperative that we endeavour to retain all players, whatever their level of ability. Rugby is a fine game with great traditions of social and playing camaraderie which complement many life-enhancing skills useful outside of the sport.

Youth Development Co-ordinator (YRDC)

The role of Youth Development Co-ordinator (YRDC), in general, is intended to:
(a) Identify areas requiring coaching support and direction at Under 16, Under 17 and Under 19 age groups, to enable coaches to increase their knowledge, management and ability to coach to the best standard possible and;

(b) Identify players with exceptional skills who may wish to experience youth representative rugby and/or who may seek to play at a higher level in the future and;

(c) Increase the knowledge and improve skill and fitness levels, of all players, irrespective of their current ability;

(d) Support, mentor and encourage young players to derive the greatest possible enjoyment from being involved with rugby football, with a view to retaining their participation in the Game after they leave youth rugby and;

(e) Enhance the reputation of Broadstreet Rugby Football Club’s Youth Section with a view to encouraging more youngsters to play the game of rugby.
Whilst the above statement is not exhaustive, it identifies the major responsibilities of the Youth Development Co-ordinator. Each age group has dedicated coaches so the YRDC will seek to introduce a degree of uniformity to coaching at all levels, with a view to providing the ‘tools’ for players to progress seamlessly into senior club rugby.
