Malvern RFC 10 - 56 Broadstreet RFC

Half Time Result Stands 20 - 0

BROADSTREET breezed to their fifth win of the season, but are waiting to hear whether they face a replay after the second half was played with uncontested scrums because of an injury to a home prop.

Lifted by an early drop-goal from Danny Richards, Street assumed total control when the Malvern wing forward collected a straight red card for a reckless rucking offence.

Richards struck again with a well-taken try followed by a conversion which bounced home via an upright. And in the final seconds of the half they scored with an impressive drive to push the Malvern scrum over the line, Number 8 Ady Hall knocking on but the referee awarding a penalty try that Richards improved.

Half Time 20 - 0

The change to the rules of engagement after the interval seemed to unsettle The Street more than their hosts, who twice broke away to claim unconverted tries.

But a move from deep in Broadstreet territory opened the way for full-back Wayne Lester, followed by  Luke Talbot then cashing in on a well-sustained drive for a try converted by Richards.

Dan Richards also added the extra points to touchdowns by Simon Morris and Nick Thatcher. And as any semblance of Malvern resistance melted away, Street helped themselves to another further couple of tries by Andy McGrory and Gary Challis

Broadstreet RFC 29 - 11 Peterborough RFC

Pace From The 'Street' Outwits Heavier Pack

BROADSTREET relied on guile and pace to outwit a Peterborough pack who looked at least two stone a man heavier and were bolstered by the experience of new recruit Jon Phillips, the former Northampton and Bedford lock.

It was 6-6 at the interval, Danny Richards trading penalties with Peterborough fly-half Duncan Low, but Street increased the tempo at the start of the second half and the visitors' desperate defensive measures granted Phillips three more opportunities to demonstrate his accuracy.

He collected two more points to frank the opening try, an admirably fluid assault launched deep in home territory by Ady Hall and rounded off by Gary Challis.

Sustained pressure led to a trademark Hall try from a scrum seven metres out, Richards again adding the points to effectively secure the game with 20 minutes to play.

And, inevitably perhaps, Street lost their momentum in the closing stages when, having been reduced to 13 men by technical indiscretions, they allowed Peterborough to snap up a consolation try via skipper Cook.

Broadstreet RFC 31 - 13 Bradford and Bingley RFC

Broadstreet claimed another National League scalp as they saw off Division Three North strugglers Bradford & Bingley in impressive fashion.

The Warwickshire champions trailed twice in the first half, but with fly-half Gary Challis pulling the strings in midfield, Street took a firm grip to leave their visitors pointless in the second half.

James Hewitt kicked two penalties to give Bs a 6-0 lead in 14 minutes before Street showed their attacking flair to score tries in quick succession through centre Alex Croft and winger Dan Phillips, the second converted by Challis.

The visitors were back in front by the half hour, going in for a converted try, but Challis secured a 15-13 lead at the break with a penalty and then added another soon after the restart.

Challis kicked his third penalty on 59 minutes as Street turned the screw, and after converting when winger Craig Ross gathered his own chip to cross for his side's third try, the No.10 sealed victory and a personal 16-point haul with a final penalty six minutes from time.

Kenilworth RFC 8 - 16 Broadstreet RFC

BROADSTREET came out on top in a typically tight, no-quarter given clash between the county’s top two junior sides.
The Warwickshire cup holders were forced to make two changes to the team that had won their last two games, and it was in-coming scrum half Jordan Simpson and centre Gary Challis who scored their two tries.
Dan Richards opened with a penalty for Street on nine minutes after the Kenilworth hooker Rob Varney had been yellow carded for coming in from the side, both sides receiving an earlier warning. Richards added a second penalty on 19 minutes before Street lost hooker Carl Southwell with a chin injury requiring hospital attention, bringing new signing, former Coventry and Rugby Lions prop Richard Siveter into the action in a front row shuffle. Simpson struck after 36 minutes with a sniping break around the blind side to cross wide out before a Russell Clarke penalty brought Kenilworth back to

11-3 at half time.

A fiery start to the second half brought yellow cards for Kenilworth’s Luke watts, playing against his former club, and ‘Streets’ Wayne Lester, and with the visitors beginning to dominate in the scrums, Richards spotted a gap behind a set piece and placed a precise kick just over the Kenilworth line with Challis showing his pace to win the race to the touchdown. Street captain Eddie Simkiss was next to see yellow at another breakdown situation and Kenilworth’s pressure led to centre Spencer Brown going over for a try after 74 minutes. Clarkes conversion attempt unluckily bouncing back off a post.

Broadstreet RFC 48 - 19 Chester RFC

A glorious day for scintillating rugby played on a surface which would not have looked out of place at the crucible theatre. A game played in good open style by both teams saw the street go ahead on 6 minutes when winger Andy Mcgrory rounded his man to touch down in the far right corner. Unfortunately Dan Richards did not have his kicking boots with him today and failed with the conversion. Street were now piling on the pressure and were well rewarded when industrious scrum half and man of the match Luke Talbot snook through a gap close to the posts to be converted by Dan Richards. The pressure continued and the street backs starting to take control of the game saw the best move of the game result in Andy Mcgrorys second try scored out wide. The visitors from Cheshire never gave up the fight but struggled to keep up with the opening pace of the game. On 20 minutes open side Simon Morris crashed over from close quarters near the posts for Dan Richards to convert. The remaining 20 minutes of the first half were played very much in the centre of the field and Chester started to bring themselves back into the game and were unlucky not to score when the ball was dropped close to the line.

Half Time 24-0

With only 1 minute on the clock of the second half the Street threw their first of 2 interception passes and the visitors were rewarded with their opening score of the game when Jack Bromley sprinted a full 50 meters to touchdown. This was then converted by fly half Tom Foden. From the restart street worked their way up the pith to put pressure on Chester’s line when the opposition captain Sean Green was sin binned on 45 minutes for coming in from the side. The resulting penalty saw second row Tom Greevy rewarded his efforts. Street failed again with the conversion. Chester now gaining some momentum worked the ball down to the street line and came very close to scoring only for street captain Eddie Simkiss to be penalized and sent to the bin for coming in from the side. Chester were unable to break the street defence from the penalty and found themselves under pressure from a street breakout on 58 minutes when Craig Ross rounded his man to score the sixth try of the game. Again this was wide out and the unlucky Richards failed to convert. Streets Morris was sent to the bin on 68 minutes for another incident at the base of the ruck. Street now down to 13 men brought Hewitt on at hooker to replace Southwell. This did not deter the street forwards who worked some nice inter passing to a good position in the opposition 22 and the pass from Talbot went into the air and how full back Wayne Lester got that high to catch it and deliver a sublime pass to outside centre Alex Crofts to score under the posts with an acrobatic dive will remain a mystery for many years to come. Converted by Richards. Street then gave their second interception pass of the Game and Chester’s lively outside half caught the ball and scooted in from 60 meters to go under the posts converted by himself on 76 minutes. From the resulting kick off street all but finished the game off when Gary Challis on for the injured Thatcher hacked through to touchdown on 78 minutes. An excellent conversion for Richards. On the stroke of full time Chester scrambled over in the far corner and no 8 Ross White came up with the ball.

Longton RFC 7 - 48 Broadstreet RFC

What a difference a week makes in rugby. Seven days ago 'Street' were subdued in their display against Bedford Athletic and then a few days later gave us a display of rugby which has not been seen for many a year. Trentham fields resplendent in glorious sunshine were host to a display of open rugby played by the visiting team scoring seven tries in all. Tries for debutantes Craig Ross (2) and James Rooke sealed a perfect day for the’ Street’.
Broadstreet only arrived 45 minutes prior to kick off due to delays on the M6 but despite this started the game in a very positive manner scoring a penalty on 9 minutes through Danny Richards. The game then started to open up with Crofts and Thatcher making incisive breaks into the Longton 22 resulting in a try on 28 minutes by Nigel Mukarati after some excellent handling in the build up. Converted by Richards. Once again ‘Street’ piled on the pressure and were rewarded  with an excellent try from Craig Ross. Converted by Richards. From the restart ‘Street’ scored again this time through the impressive Thatcher scoring under the posts for Richards to convert once again. The confidence of the away team was now starting to bloom and chip and chase through on the stroke of half time by Andy McGrory increased the score to 31 – 0 after the conversion by Richards.

Half Time: Longton 0 – 31 Broadstreet.

The second half started much as the first had finished with debutante James Rooke scoring his first try for the ‘Street’ with only 3 minutes played on the clock of the second half. Richards missed his only kick of the game. Longton never gave up battling through the whole contest and but for a handling error near the ‘Street’ line could and should have scored. Craig Ross then got his second of the match after more excellent work by various players with Richards back on track with the conversion. Nigel Mukarati then got his second try on 24 minutes when another length of the field passing move saw him score just to the right of the posts. Richards converted to round off an excellent day with the boot. At this point Longton started to work their way back into the game and had several bouts of pressure in the ‘Street’ 22, crossing the line on 31 minutes through the blindside flanker which was then converted by the outside centre.

Final Score: Longton RFC 7 – 48 Broadstreet RFC
