Two of the Finest Rugby playing Schools in the UK.  

Both Sedbergh School and Wellington College have a sterling reputation as two of the finest Rugby playing schools in the UK and they have developed a staunch 'bragging right' rivalry by playing an annual fixture as 'The Best of the North V The Best of the South'. This match has traditionally been played at Welford Road, Leicester Tigers' ground, a middle meeting ground between Cumbria, where Sedbergh are based, and Berkshire's Wellington College, but this year will be held at Broadstreet RFC on Wednesday 9th November 2011 at 6:00 pm.

Wellington College.  Wellington College 1st XV are currently coached by ex-London Irish and Oxford University Blue Kevin Brennan and have been a breeding ground for some of the British Isles best Rugby players in recent years. The College is the Alma Mater of current England Internationals James Haskell and Paul Dorran-Jones as well as Scotland's Thom and Max Evans, the success of the school in producing such talent is made more impressive by the fact that Wellington remains a 'one term only' rugby school with the pupils having to take up Hockey or Football in the Spring terms.

Wellington's towering reputation as a tour de force in schools rugby was cemented in 2008/09 when they became the first and only school to become National Champions securing the Daily Mail National Cup at both U15s and U18s levels in the same year.  With this in mind, it was somewhat of a surprise that Wellington no longer compete in the Daily Mail Cup at U18 level, this has been attributed to their exceedingly strong fixture list which is more valuable to them in that it produces many more testing matches and develops players better than the Daily Mail Cup ever could.

Sedbergh School.  Sedbergh have been a traditional powerhouse for decades and despite only having 320 male pupils at the school manage to field six U18s sides every Saturday of which 32 Old Sedbergians have gone on to represent their country including England captain Will Carling and World cup winner Will Greenwood.

Sedbergh also refrain from entering the Daily Mail cup due to a more competitive fixture list featuring the likes of Colstons, Millfield and local(ish) rivals Ampleforth College.  Sedbergh currently hold the bragging rights for their other main rivalry with Wellington College, having beaten them 21-15 in their last fixture at Welford Road which saw the forward dominated Sedbergh team over come the stronger backs of Wellington.

Look out for James Brock and Joe Robinson who have been impressing for the 1st XV since they were in Year 11 (U16s) but are now in their last year of school.
