Broadstreet rounded off a fantastic season with a decisive Coventry & Mid Warwickshire 2nd XV Cup Final victory over old rivals Barker Butts and kept Zee Germans to a nil in the process. Broadstreet followed in the footsteps of the 1st Team to complete the double at the Butts Arena and lift yet another piece of silverware. It provided a fitting setting for the Street to bid bon voyage to two fantastic players who will be greatly missed both on and off the pitch in back row duo Jean Loup Strebelle and Antoine Navereau, the musical Peirre Martinaud will also return across the channel.

The Street started off with great intent as did the Butts as both sides probed with crash ball after crash ball up the middle, and it was Street who created the first opportunity only for Andrew Skene to fluff his lines on the line. The Street were threatening soon after and Skene made up for his error to put Daz Watts through for the opening try on 20mins, Watts failing to convert. The floodgates opened and Street scored a further 4 tries before the break. Prolific winger Dan Phillips showed great pace and skill to chip through and collect for a fantastic solo effort. With the Dodd brothers Jamie pulling the strings and Chris running riot with power and intent, the next try came with a cute grubber from standoff Steve Hughes for No.8 Jean Loup to collect under the posts, Daz Watts converting. Jamie Dodd added the fourth try with a mazy run from half way, and the match was all but finished when Ashley Lighthowler went one better with a teasing run from well in his own half to score the 5th try of the half.

Half Time 27 - 0

The second half didn’t offer the same excitement as the first and the Butts offered even less as the competition fizzled out with any consolation the Butts may have hoped for. Dan Phillips went in for his second of the game Mattand with that manager Nigel Bonas rang all the changes to try and freshen things up, with only back row Ethan Griffiths making any real impact with a strong chase, tackle, steal and try with his first touch of the ball. Street ended the game on the attack as they have done for much of the season and look forward to defending their titles next season.

On a sunny afternoon at Coventry Rugby Clubs Butts Arena, Broadstreet RFC on their 13th appearence in the Warwickshire cup final lined up against Dunlop RFC who on their first ever appearence in the final started thedanny_richards_try game with all the spirit and gusto associated with a debuting team. The game started with both sides trying to find the measure of each other, both teams making mistakes with knock ons and turnovers. The scoring began with a Dan Richards’ penalty on 3 mins then both sides went down to 14 men, firstly Dunlop’s number 8 Mitch Todd was sent to the sin binEddie Simkiss Model Pose for a technical offence closely followed by Street’s number 9 Nick Thatcher just a couple of phases of play later. Play in the first quarter focused around the centre of the pitch with Street winning the arm-wrestle in the scrumage and a lot of kicking from both sides trying to gain the upper hand in territory. The first score came on 25 mins after a Broadstreet scrum deep in the opposition half and a bustling run from No.8 Mark Challis set up the platform for Dan Richards to score through the depleted Dunlop defence. He thenNigel_Mukarati_Kiss duly added the extras with the boot. Three more unanswered tries from Street were scored in quick succession from Nigel Mukarati, Daniel Phillips and Tom GrimesDan Phillips. The pick of the scores was finally dotted down by centre Tom Grimes, following a sweeping backs move culminating in wing James Hunt offloading the ball to Grimes to go over in the corner, all tries converted by Richards.

Half Time 31 - 0

In the 3rd quarter Broadstreet continued to dominate possession with Dunlop defending valiantly, but their nick_thatchers_tryefforts were scuppered after 6 mins of the second half when formerandy_mcgrory_break Dunlop colt, replacement fullback Andy McGrory’s powerful sixty metre run set up Nick Thatcher’s unconverted try. On forty nine minutes, a promising attack from Dunlop was halted and a quick turnover saw the ball ending up in the hands of replacement Broadstreet wing Perry Pudge to sprint seventy metres for Street’sperry_pudge_try 6th try. On sixty mins Carl Southwell replaced hooker Mick Hewitt to bolster streets’ forward effort, leading to numerous phases of pick and drive from Broadstreet’s forwards. Then Captain Ed Simkiss found a gap open up in front of himeddy_simkiss_try and after a brief moment of disbelief he ran in the try from forty metres, with Dunlop’s defence left flailing. Dunlop full back Dave Weston came close on 62 minutes, only to knock on over the line following a concerted period of pressure from the undeterred Dunlop side. Broadstreet rung the changes, using their replacments bench to good effect which culminted in Broadstreet’s final try of the game for centre Grimes with his second of the day, again converted by Richards. Dunlop continued to plug away and their efforts were rewarded when Dunlop turned the ball over deep in Street’s half and a mazy run from fly half Craig McGrory who fed Dave Weston for Dunlop’s solo score of the afternoon. Overall Broadstreet the support teamdominated territory, possession and the battle of the breakdown , with a couragous Dunlop side defending tirelessly taking the game to Street at any opportunity, unfortunately to come off a good second best to the soon-to-be National league side.

An under strength Broadstreet 2nds continued their impressive season with a win in the Coventry & Mid Warwickshire Cup on Wednesday night against a poor Copsewood side concerned more about the opposition and result than playing a bit of rugby.

Back row Jake Hird scored a well taken hat-trick, with fellow back row Colm Berry continuing his excellent season with a solo try. Danny Rowstron and Daz Watts both notching a conversion each.

Street will play Earlsdon on Wednesday night in the next round.

Midlands One Champions Broadstreet RFC tamed Midlands One rivals Kenilworth RFC in the semi-final of the Coors Warwickshire Cup on Wednesday night under the lights at Earlsdon RFC – winger James Hunt reeling off a hat-trick of tries while Danny Richards chalked up 20 points. Kenilworth lay in 2nd place until the last game of the season and Street expected a sterner test but the gap in the neighbours' Midlands One form was demonstrated in the opening exchanges, with Nigel Mukarati having another fine season a constant threat to the Kenilworth defence. And although the Glasshouse Lane boys broke the deadlock, Elliot Brown slotting home a penalty, Street responded inside two minutes as a sweeping move earned their first try for Hunt, neatly converted by points machine Richards. As Kenilworth then found themselves in the referee’s bad books, a string of stoppages enabling Richards to reel off four penalties and secure a 16-point interval lead.

Half Time 19 - 3

Kenilworth tried to respond but Street maintained the pressure and two more Hunt tries, surprisingly unconverted by the impressive Richards, put the game out of Kenilworth's reach and another Cup success firmly in Street’s. Then the game produced the move of the night when street broke into the Kenilworth’s 22 and a brilliant slight of hand by Richards put scrum half Thatcher through with a clear run in to the line, but as he went to put the ball down it left his hand and went forward.

Kenilworth earned themselves a consolation try, when veteran hooker Rob Varney logged a try, converted by Brown, but another rash of infringements enabled Richards to chalk up two further penalties. Street will now face Dunlop RFC in the final on Sunday May 3, please support the Street as they look to complete an impressive double.

This will be Street’s last year in this competition, as they will now have to go into the National Trophy competition with their promotion to the National leagues.

This final league game of the season turned into a one sided affair after 20 minutes with Warwickshire's Mark-ChallisBroadstreet RFC running out easy winners with spells of fast flowing and exciting rugby.

Although the final score may have been 62 this did not represent the first 15 minutes where Street applied all the pressure but were repelledNick-Thatcher-1 by some excellent Hinckley defence and countless handling errors by the home side. Furthermore on 11 minutes Hinckley's William Keeling intercepted a long pass and was able to score under the posts unchallenged. He was able to convert his own try taking the score to 7-0 to the visitors from Leicestershire.

Street were dragged back into the game by man of the match Nick Thatcher whose sniping breaks and excellent vision put street back in Hinckleys 22. Number 8 Mark Challis Nick-Thatcher-2was to score the first of streets 10 tries when he crossed the line after 21 minutes. Dan Richards adding the conversion 7-7. Thatcher then was to score the first of his 2 tries as he broke through the defence 3 minutes later. Richards again adding the conversion.14-7. Thatcher was to score again on 32 minutes as he cruised over the line. Richards added his third conversion. Street continued to build the pressure and andy_mcgroryon the stroke of half time Andy McGrory burst through to increase the score with Richards adding his fourth conversion of the afternoon.

Half Time 28 - 7

The second half started briskly and street were straight on the attack with a break down the right flank finished danny_richardsoff by Richards in the corner after only 2 minutes. He was unable to convert his try. Street were on a roll now and with more and more simon_morrispressure being put on the Hinckley defence it started to show signs of cracking. Streets next try scored by centre Lynsey Bishop who went over the line unopposed with two men outside him. Again Richards was unable to make the conversion from such a wide angle. Street were now firing on all cylinders and a superb try by James Hunt joining the line from the opposite side of the field after 48 minutes. Richards added Lynsey-Bishopthe conversion. Hinckley battled well but were being stretched by Streets fast open approach to the game. Challis added his second try after 52 minutes and when Dan Phillips out paced two Hinckley defenders it was all but over.Richards managed to add one conversion. With 70 minutes on the clock captain Eddie Simkiss continued his james_huntscoring run by adding streets 10th try when he crashed over out wide on the right. Hinckley may have been down but they were not beaten they continued to battle and applied some late pressure to the street line but were unable to convert the pressure into points.

Broadstreet rugby club came out top in this game of missed opportunities as they carried on their unbeaten high_tackle_1run to 9 games. Fly half Dan Richards open the score after 28 minutes with a sweetly struck penalty. Both danny_scoressides looking to make this an open and attacking game were thwarted by some over zealous refereeing Steve Johnson of the Midlands society. Malvern RFC got their chance to bring the scores level on the stroke of half time and full back Hooper took his chance well to bring the scores high_tackle_2level at the break.

Half Time 3 - 3

Broadstreet stared the second half with purpose and were well rewarded with 3 tries all converted by Richards. The first try scored by blind side flanker and Man of the match Nigel Mukarati after some neat inter play. The nigel_scoressecond and easiest of the match scored by Richards after he intercepted a long pass by Malvern fly half Longley to score under the posts. The final try by skipper Eddie Simkiss from close range added to 'streets score to take them to 24-3. Malvern continued to battle and put ed_scoresseveral phases together with the end result a try for blindside flanker Hobbs. Hooper added the conversion to make the final score 24-10.

Champions smash 1000 points!

Skippered by the tenacious Chris “Loper” Harrison, the awesome Broadstreet 3rds took the Warwickshire League Three Title and promotion in their stride as they dismissed second placed Leamington with 8 tries in their twelfth 50 point haul of the league season and in doing so surpassed 1000 league points. The game was all but over by the end of the first half as Ben "the Claw" Shepherd bulldozed his way over to score yet another hat-trick to close in on 20 for the season. In contrast Andy Tee managed another brace of tries with his usual speed and grace, but could only tee up 5 from 8 conversions. Leamington did provide some resistance after the break with 12 unanswered points before Colm Berry, Martin Hart and Andrew Hirons finished off the game as they all went over for tries after some excellent passages of forward and backs interlinking play.
