Statement from Wasps:

Wasps are pleased to be able to confirm that the club’s initial training base will be located at Broadstreet Rugby Club, Binley Woods, Coventry.

The move has been approved by Broadstreet RFC’s Committee and planning permission has been applied for to erect new training facilities on the site, adjacent to the current clubhouse.  
Wasps’ will also employ sports-turf specialists Greenfields, who successfully manage the Ricoh Arena pitch, to start preparatory work on the training pitch that Wasps will use at Broadstreet.

The target is to ensure all facilities are in optimum condition by June 2016, when Wasps playing squad and staff will relocate to the West Midlands ahead of the 2016/17 Aviva Premiership campaign.

David Armstrong, Chief Executive Wasps Group, said: “We are very excited to work with Broadstreet RFC on this important project and we would like to thank the Committee and everyone involved in the process for their warm welcome, co-operation and enthusiasm to create Wasps' training base at Broadstreet RFC.

“We are very appreciative of this support and look forward to establishing an even stronger partnership moving forwards, including a community support programme which should also benefit young rugby players associated with the club.

“Broadstreet RFC already boasts an impressive set-up and our aim is to enhance its existing facilities, while also creating a separate elite training base, which will cater for the requirements of a professional rugby squad. We are all looking forward to the playing squad and off-field staff being together in the West Midlands for the new season.

“This is part of a two-stage process, which will culminate in the creation of a state-of-the-art training complex, including an indoor barn. The club is in the process of securing land and planning permission for this final complex, which will result in the development of a truly world-class training base. We will make a further announcement on the second stage of the project when details have been finalised.”
